Dear All,
Can any one tell me which IGC practice is required for duplex stainless steel? please give some brief idea why we have to follow that particular practice?

Is there any code requirement for the above matter especially for pipe fittings????

RE: IGC Practice required for Duplex stainless steel.

IGC testing is not normally applied to duplex stainless steel.  The ferric chloride pitting test is considered sufficient to identify incorrectly processed material that could be susceptible to corrosion.

RE: IGC Practice required for Duplex stainless steel.

The testing is not a Code requirement.  ASME stays silent on Process Fluid and Environment issues.  NACE and API develop recommended practices to address 'what happens after we start running our new system'.  PWHT for all c/s welds in strong amines, no 300-series s/s in chloride service, no c/s in wet chlorine service, etc.

The Owner is required to tell the Design Engineer what the environment and process conditions are, and the Designer has to address those outside of ASME [other than temperature, pressure, and basemetal thickness PWHT requirements].
