Grouting Shear Lug

Grouting Shear Lug

Grouting Shear Lug

(OP)
Looking for details for putting hole in base plate for grouting of a shear lug.

I thought AISC had some typical details for this.

Other question is, it is possible to just pour the grout and wet set the column?
In my situation the column is really not a column but just a weldment used for a crane stop

It seems the usual approach uses to be just set the baseplate in the preformed hole; with a shear lug, quite likely a wet set will be preferred for a better fill , without shear lug quite likely a dry set of the plate allows for better levelling. Precisely on levelling issue, setting the column with baseplate -as long as feasible to keep the correct position- could be good, but may be impractical.

In all cases, it is common to use specialty mortars with small shrinkage.

RE: Grouting Shear Lug

I would hesitate to wet set the base pl if the col is attached for the following reasons:
the possible need to plumb the col
the possible need to adjust the elevation
after all members are connected to col...may have to come back and readjust the above.
All of this involves time while the grout is meanwhile beginning to set.
In an ideal world it could be possible.
Attached is an example of base pl details that I have used.
Can not remember where I got the 1 1/2" dia holes for the grout..
have done many like this...no complaints sofar.

Sail-
Like I mentioned, this is not really a column.

In your sketch, it looks like you must have a very large grout pocket.
