Spiral Stringer

Spiral Stringer

Spiral Stringer

(OP)
any one know of any company in UK that can roll a spiral flat bar stringer Rad 7m (approx 45 degs)
Cheers

RE: Spiral Stringer

It may be possible to assemble the stairway without rolling it- depending on the bar size and radius.

I've tried the web and most are in USA or Oz. The bar will be 170 x 10. 5m lg
If I can't get anyone we will set a former up and try and roll it ourselves. I think we may do a few before we get it right. It will need going through the rollers at the pitch angle of that particular stringer and be "sliding" sidewise at the same time. All good fun

RE: Spiral Stringer

Spiral or circular?

Wouldn't it be easier to do a straight roll on the flat, then warp it in the vertical dimension? Once in the circular shape the warping should be easy.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

RE: Spiral Stringer

I assumed he meant a helix shape, but that is commonly referred to as a spiral stairway.

One idea would be to partially cut bar sections from a plate at the appropriate angle, then roll the plate, then finish cutting the sections out.

In the past, with double stringer spiral stairs using flat bar similar to that, they were assembled by using unrolled bars, punching or drilling holes at the appropriate locations for bolted stair treads, then bolting them to the stair treads would pull them into shape.  This was on a relatively large radius, not a tight spiral as you might see in a home stairway.

RE: Spiral Stringer

I too assumed a helical stair but I got caught once by an architect who really wanted a spiral, so I ask.

You're correct. helical is the proper term for this one. I thought of the plate idea as being the easiest but there would be a lot of waste, although offset maybe by the waste we might get in trying any other way. The other is the fact you can't reposition a plate so it can only be as wide as the rollers.
Thanks
