Change a block to a sketch

Change a block to a sketch

Change a block to a sketch

(OP)
Hi all, I have been supplied some parts and have done a load of modifcations to it, then realised that it was started by the BLOCK function. Our standards we work to doesn't allow the use of functions like this, everything has to be generated by using s sketch and extrude. My question is, is there any easy way to change my BLOCK to a sketch and have everything underneath it reassociate correctly. Picture is attached.

Cheers

RE: Change a block to a sketch

Is there an easy way to change the block to a sketch? NO, you will need to replace it with another block based off a sketch - but that may not be all that bad.
What I would do in your situation is make the existing block the "current feature", then delete it, and replace it with the new block and sketch.
Then work you way down the model tree, making the next feature down the "current feature" and reassociating way you need to.
Your datum planes and axis are "fixed, so they shouldn't be affected.
It's hard to tell from here how bad it may be for you, but it may work out ok.

Sh*t I was hoping that wouldn't be the response, although I had a feeling it would be! Yes it's pretty bad, sorry I'm not allowed to show my models for certain reasons, it was just further down that list I have linked in surfaces and all this.

Thanks for the reply!

RE: Change a block to a sketch

In the end, it may be easier to simply convince the 'powers that be' that for these existing parts, that it's OK to leave them like they are.  After all, except when you're looking at the 'history' of the model (Part Navigator), as far as ANY downstream applications are concerned, there is absolutely NO difference between a model where the initial solid body was an Extruded Sketch or a Block Primitive.  As far as your typical downstream application is concerned, Topology is Topology, pure and simple.
