Check box in NX 7.5 Drafting

Check box in NX 7.5 Drafting

Check box in NX 7.5 Drafting

(OP)
Hi, is there a way to create a check box in NX Drafting as opposed to drawing two lines "X" to check a box ... or adding a note "X" inside the box?

The idea here is for the users to check one or more boxes from a list of notes, which are applicable by just clicking inside the box and having NX automatically check them or fill them.

Thanks !

RE: Check box in NX 7.5 Drafting

While there's nothing quite like what you've described, one approach might be to create a series of Part Attributes (in NX 8.0 these could be Booleans with a choice of 'True' or 'False') which if set would then trigger that an existing 'null' note, placed coincident to the 'box', be changed to an 'X'.

Thanks John, sounds like a good idea.  Can this be done in NX 7.5?  Also, is there an example that I could find online to give it a try ?  Especially, the Boolean portion of the attributes.

Thanks,

RE: Check box in NX 7.5 Drafting

The Boolean Part Attribute was not introduced until NX 8.0 so in NX 7.5 you have to do a bit of extra work.

See the attached Drawing.  There is a Part Attribute titled 'CHROME_PLATE' which if you change it from 'NO' to 'YES' (mind the case of the words) it will cause an X to appear in the 'box' next to the words 'CHROME PLATE' on the drawing.

Note that there are some issues, such as the fact that the change will not go into effect until you switch from 'Drafting' to 'Modeling', go to...

Tools -> Update -> Update for External Change

...and then return to 'Drafting'.

Note that this procedure is NOT necessary with NX 8.0.  If you happen to get a copy of NX 8.0 installed (for evaluation or whatever), I'd be glad to create an equivalent example in NX 8.0 where all of this is better implemented.

John, could you post the NX8 example for those of us with NX8?

Other option: draw an x where the length of the legs is defined by the parameters a.b, where 'b' is the demanded length. Fill in 'a' as 0 or 1, depending on if you want the box checked/unchecked.

RE: Check box in NX 7.5 Drafting

For Checkbox's I use a datum call out and just leave a blank space and if I want it checked off I place a "X" where the blank space was. If you want to get fancy replace the "X" with a boolen driven attribute.

<&70><+> <+><&90> = just box
<&70><+>X<+><&90> = box with x in it.

RE: Check box in NX 7.5 Drafting

OK, attached is the same example part only updated to NX 8.0 and using the enhanced NX 8.0 Attribute capabilities.  Note that if you open the File -> Properties dialog while looking at the drawing, all you have to do is change the Attribute titled 'CHROME_PLATE' from 'False' to 'True' (the ONLY two choices you have since it's a Boolean attribute) and when you hit 'Apply' the 'box' on the Drawing gets 'checked'.
