Ask inspection method plate exchanger

(OP)
We have plate and spiral type exchangers at PVC plant, presently we are having visual inspection of only visible area external for the same. By using your valuable experience and knowledge kindly if you could help me to define the required inspection scope for a plate and spiral type exchangers.

Thank you

RE: Ask inspection method plate exchanger

Not much to inspect on P&F Hx's.  UT nozzles for thickness.  UT-T the endplates for thickness, and visually examine their inner and outer faces for corrosion.  Look at the plates for corrosion, pitting and cracking when the Hx has been disassembled for cleaning.  Check the clamping bolts/rods for corrosion and galling, maybe UT-straightbeam down the length of the bolts for cracking.  I wouldn't do the straightbeam crack check unless I suspected overtorquing of the bolts.
