Distribution Reinforcement noted on Slab Drawings

Distribution Reinforcement noted on Slab Drawings

Distribution Reinforcement noted on Slab Drawings

(OP)
Hi

I keep noticing on drawings that it says "Distribution Reinforcemet to be N12-300". That is 12mm bars at 300mm centres(1/2" bars at 12"c/c). But I cannot find anywhere else on the drawings or specifications where it says what distribution reinforcement is or where it goes. Is this distribution reinforcement meant to be a mat of reinforcement each way top and bottom unless there is anything else noted on the drawings?

Thanks

RE: Distribution Reinforcement noted on Slab Drawings

normally it is reo that is used to distribute the main bars, ie you need N12@200crts over a one way support, you use the distribution reo in the other direction to ensure these bars stay at 200 crts.

RE: Distribution Reinforcement noted on Slab Drawings

Agree with RE, and the term "distribution reinforcement" has been typically used to refer to bars in the orthogonal direction to the primary reinforcement.  I think the word "distribution" was selected because of the lateral distribution of capacity which this reinforcement assists.  Where I have worked, we have used typical details to show where this secondary reinforcement occurs.  Anywhere you have primary reinforcement shown on plan, distribution reinforcement is the minimum requirement in the other direction.
