Could any body explain:
1. Role and responsibilities (both in office and site) of civil engineers on well sites.
2. What are gathering systems
3. what is included in civil/structural design related to well sites
( I am planning to move into oil&gas/Energy sector and would like to guage my knowledge/experience before making final decision so any advise/info will be helpful. I am an experienced civil/structural engineer with design office and construction site experience.)

Gathering systems consist of a pipeline network to manifold together individual wells.

Here is typical description:

Provide civil engineering expertise in the planning, design, and construction oversight of well pads, access roads, and fresh water impoundments. Sound engineering judgment in planning, site layout, hydrology, hydraulics, access roads, freshwater impoundment, and earthwork projects, as related to well-pad design and construction.
 
Prepares and/or oversees the development of construction plans which include drainage plans, grading plans, site plans, and erosion and sediment control plans at proposed well-pad sites.
 
Ensures projects are complete and constructed in accordance with requirements.

Verifies that all recommendations, drawings and specifications comply with engineering, environmental and economic requirements. Works independently and as part of an integrated team which includes land surveyors and environmental/ecological professionals.

Possesses good interpersonal skills, written and oral communications and team skills

Ensures relevant company policies and practices and applicable codes, recommended practices, & regulations are properly implemented.

Ensures compliance with the agreed health, safety, and environmental compliance procedures and practices of all activities in areas of discipline responsibility.

Possesses knowledge of health, safety, and environmental policies and local, State, & Federal Regulations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. Minimum 5 years industry related experience. Registered Engineer in the State of Ohio. Registrations in Pennsylvania & West Virginia are considered a plus.

Experience in design, preparation, estimates, and inspection in the construction of well site pads.
Experience in managing earthwork projects and implementing grading, drainage, and erosion control plans.
Competence in MS office Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Project
Familiarity with the onshore oil & natural gas industry
Demonstrated human relations and communication skills (written and verbal) and management of multi-discipline projects.
Must be US citizen or Permanent resident of US
 
 

RE: Well sites and civil/structural engineers

Very little structural design is involved. Maybe a small building to house equipment.
They're not hiring you for structural work, just the civil stuff.
