constraint issue

constraint issue

See added image.
I'd like to constraint the orange part in the center of the same-shaped hole.
For Up-Down, I can just use the center dimension.
But, For left-right, since it's a \/ shape, I can't center this.

Any way I can make this work without having to resort to a distance constraint?

Thanks for your help.

RE: constraint issue

You'll need some kind of supplemental geometry. I think I would place a datum plane in the center of the orange wedge component and another in the center of the hole. You'll need to change the reference set for the orange component to "Entire Part" and then constrain the two planes together. You can then change the reference set for the orange component back to "Model" and the datum plane will not be visible. Depending on how you have the assembly structured you can either do the same reference set juggle with the component with hole in it to hide that plane or you can move it off to a hidden layer if that geometry is at the top level. It is often very useful to use hidden datums like this for constraints.

Good point. Constraints with datum planes should work. The hole is cut out of 2 plates unfortunately (asymmetrically) so that'll need some workaround, but I'm sure I'll figure something out.

Thanks for the help.
