Pl guide me how a softening plant works in case od cooling tower?

There are two obvious responses to this question:

1.  You soften the make up water to the cooling tower in order to allow more cycles of concentration, reducing blowdown, reducing water consumption or optionally just possibly reducing the tds level of the blowdown.

2.  Your tower is constructed from hard, grey concrete.  A nice, well tended Flax plant would soften the view from the bosses window.
