NX 7.5 "Incorrect object for this operation"

NX 7.5 "Incorrect object for this operation"

NX 7.5 "Incorrect object for this operation"

(OP)
I recently ran into an issue while working in an assembly I'd created in NX 7.5  The assembly includes various part files, some parts from the reuse library, and linear and spline paths with stock created using the mechanical routing package.  If I'm working with that assembly as the work part in the context of a larger assembly, when I try to bring in a new part and use assembly constraints to constrain it, try to move a part using "move part", or move part of a tube using transform path, it tells me "incorrect object for this operation".  If I make the assembly the displayed part, then it's fine.  I've tried constraining the new parts in different ways, using different move methods, and some other things, but I can't figure out why it's telling me this.  The assembly was working fine up until a day or two ago.

Thanks for any help.

RE: NX 7.5 "Incorrect object for this operation"

Try going to...

Preferences -> Assemblies...

...and check to see if the 'Component Member Select' option is toggled ON or OFF.  Try switching to and seeing if that changes this behavior back what you were seeing previously.

John,

Tried that, didn't seem to make any difference.  I noticed that when I'm in the assembly as the work part, right click on a part and select move, it gives me the "incorrect object for this operation" message, then makes the previous assembly I was working in the work part, almost like it boots me out of that assembly completely.

I've noticed that not every part in the assembly gives me this message.  Some can move or be reconstrained without a problem, it's only certain ones.  I can't seem to find a pattern yet though.

RE: NX 7.5 "Incorrect object for this operation"

make sure the pull down on the selection bar is set to "entire assembly"

I double checked that and it says "entire assembly".  Just for fun I tried it with "within work part and components" and "within work part only", same result.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I'd hate to have to recreate this whole assembly.
