Ductile Iron Pipe Costs

Ductile Iron Pipe Costs

Ductile Iron Pipe Costs

(OP)
I am working on a cost estimate for a job the requires the installation of 100mm ductile iron pipe for a water line. In my area ductile iron pipe is very uncommon--pvc pipe is used 99.9% of the time.I have never worked on a job using ductile iron pipe and our firm has no records of jobs we have managed using it.

Are there extra costs associated with ductile iron pipe over pvc pipe? If I were to use installation costs for pvc pipe would I be very far off in my estimate?

RE: Ductile Iron Pipe Costs

Yes and yes.

Iron is heavier, so it's more difficult/costly to transport, unload and lay.  Also it's more difficult to cut (you will go thru more blades and time with whatever style of saw you use).  The fittings cost more, and are a bit tougher to install.

The nice thing is, iron doesn't care (as much) what you backfill the ditch with.

RE: Ductile Iron Pipe Costs

Call a local vendor!!  They are usually very helpful - if not - call another one!!

RE: Ductile Iron Pipe Costs

Thrust blocks are required with DICL whereas with PVC you may not require same if solvent welding the material.

AT 100mm  why not use PE and mole it into the ground it will be less costly.
