Heat treatment for skips structure and lifting bale arm
Heat treatment for skips structure and lifting bale arm
(OP)
Hi guys,
anybody knows when heat treatment is required ? any American or British Standard ?
For example my concern are the skips that are used on construction site to lift concrete.
They are usually bent and damage. At the moment we just bash it and apply heat if necessary to straighten it in workshops. It has a nice finish.
But I am concern if it is necessary to do that after repair to make the particle/grain give a good strong structure again ?
Regards

we use carbon (mild) steel.
any information about if heat treatment is advisable if we repair damage skips especially the lifting bar if twisted?

To prove that you have not over-heated the steel during the "heat it & beat it" cycles, get 1000. 1100°F and 1200°F temp-sticks from the welding supply store. If the 1200°F tempstick melts, you have ruined the steel. Otherwise, Happy Blacksmithing!
