There are other factors in play but if your product is one that leaves a residue when it dries, and your primary seal is a pusher, then you are best served by using a contacting WET seal as the backup seal. My two centavos.

Can you send us some information on the process condition? It would be good to see the product SG, suction and discharge pressure, VP, temp, shaft size?
If you have a pusher seal and the product leaves a residue, you may suffer from hang up as the residue builds up under the dynamic oring. You must avoid this at all costs as you will experience pre mature failures. Are you sure the residue is not carbon face wear? If you have high VP and low SG then you may experience this synario.
If you Are using a single seal and having good seal life and want to improve seal life then a liquid Tandem seal may prevent the residue build up and increase seal life!
