Material for Cams

Material for Cams

(OP)
What is the most suitable material other than cast iron, for manufacturing Cams for motion control in autolathes?
Can we use OHNS or EN24 for the same?. If it is so, which is the better material and why?

RE: Material for Cams

En24 i heat treated condition will be preferrable to OHNS grade of steel . EN24 stock can be purchaesd and easily machined. After completing the heat treatment you can use it safely. OHNS I guess will bemore difficult to machine and will need a specialized heat treatment Also the basic cost of OHNS sould be higher than EN24. Hope this helps.
