#15 Stain metal finish

(OP)
Hi All,
New to your great forum! I'm a design/engineer in the lighting world..We have a project of wall sconces (300 of them) We had them made in China from CRS steel and chrome plated to a mirror finish..When the customer received them, they wanted a #15 stain finish..We tested a few different ways to put a grain on them..One way was using a scotch bright pad..This finish was too fine and rejected..Next we tried using a med grit pad on our Walters sanding machine..This worked well but cut too fast into the copper under plating..What is a #15 satin finish and how is it applied? Any help would be great.Thank You, Tony
