Replace component without losing constraints

Replace component without losing constraints

Replace component without losing constraints

Hi,
how can I set up family member to avoid errors constraints during replacing from a screw with an other ?
Naming faces with the same value ?

Thank you...

RE: Replace component without losing constraints

In replace component thre is a special setting ...- retain relations

Hi uwam2ie,
this option is set, but error come out.
I think I need to name face identical, but I need to know the correct steps, to avoid self-test solution.

Thank you...

RE: Replace component without losing constraints

is the new screw a variant of the old?

I want to replace an hex head with an other type of screw.

Thank you...

RE: Replace component without losing constraints

Don't constrain the screws with there faces, but use planes and CSYS instead.

Best regards,

Michaël.

Sorry MickyV007, but I don't like your method.
The solution is simple, but I'm not sure at the 100% the right steps.
I think the best practice is mate components as they are in the real world.

Thank you...

RE: Replace component without losing constraints

Using named edges/faces (and/or datums) works.

We've been using that method for many years. It's proven very robust.

RE: Replace component without losing constraints

If you use either the fastener libraries that I used to provide years ago or now the ones from the Siemens PLM Machinery Libraries, the common mating faces of things like screws, bolts, etc, have been given common names so that the 'Maintain Relationships' option should work out-of-the-box.

Hi John,
our company use NX and UGS before from V18, so we had built our Machinery Libraries like screws, bolts, etc, from lot of years ago, then we don't use your Siemens PLM Machinery Libraries.
Then, which is the correct workflow to avoid errors on replace components ?

Thank you...

Resolved naming faces used in 'remember constraints'.

RE: Replace component without losing constraints

Make the mated component the displayed part * , Right click the face that the constraint is using - Properties - General tab - enter a unique name + OK
Repeat on the replacement component and set the same name as above.

Hi,
I've named the faces that are used in remember constraints with unique value, 'PLA' for planar surface e 'CIL' for cylindric face.
Update all family member.
The replace component from a screw to other screw type work, but when I open old assembly, all screw are reverted.
For example, see the image that are now used to mate.
The problem is that ALL assembly with part family added without remember constraints are in this situation.
When I say ALL, I say lot assembly and my colleague want my dead.
Solution ?

Thank you...

@Cubalibre00
that the mess with api or technologie changes inside the software.
I have the same or similar problems - my colleages want to hang me,too. winky smile Its the software. Contact GTAC they may help you - wycile - . In your situation I would ran a cut between new and existing data. Rework the old only when needed -.

RE: Replace component without losing constraints

You can only make these changes to the 'Master Part Family' template file since the family 'members' are all created as 'Read Only' (at the NX level, NOT the OS, so a user can't change it).  This means that after you edit the 'Master Part Family' template file you will need to generate NEW family members from the newly updated template(s) and then replace these files in the folder(s) where they're being stored.
