How to constrain 3 d elements?

How to constrain 3 d elements?

How to constrain 3 d elements?

(OP)
Hi,
I am new to FEM and I needed to know how to constrain a component completely meshed with 3d elements?I was constraining using SPC constraining all 6 degrees of freedom but I heard that 3d elements do not have rotational degree of freedom..So I am confused on how to constrain it using SPC or any other type of constraints..
Please help

Bharat

RE: How to constrain 3 d elements?

yes 3D elements have only 3 translation freedoms (and no rotation freedoms).

so you have to support with a 3-2-1 style of contraints.

RE: How to constrain 3 d elements?

How is it restrained in real life? That's usually a good guide.
