hi folks just joined as i need a little help. i have just got my hands on a second hand vacuum pump which i want to use a build a vacuum bag press fro veneering. it is a RPC3 by genevac

everything looks OK but i need to give the pump the once over before using it. i can do all the electrics but need some advice on how to service the pump. it appears to have some oil in the glass chamber so i assume this need to changed and filled up.

if this right if so how do i do it.

Use a search engine, e.g. Google, to find and download the operator's manual from the manufacturer's website.

I see what you mean; Genevac's site was not helpful.

At a guess the item containing the oil is a mist filter on the pump discharge. Mechanical vac pumps usually eject a fine mist which is generally undesirable, especially so in a 'clean' production facility. If it is on the suction line it could be a foreline trap if the pump has been on a dirty service. A long time since I worked on these - the ones I was familiar with were by BOC Edwards and were beautifully engineered.
