SSU/SSP 4/12 slope requirement question.

SSU/SSP 4/12 slope requirement question.

SSU/SSP 4/12 slope requirement question.

Per 8.6.4.1.4.3, In your opinions, what is the reason that sprinklers cant be installed any closer than 5'-0" from the intersection of upper and lower truss chords? I don't understand NFPA's explanation in their systems handbook. They say that if a fire starts on the eave they will have a head close to the fire, if so, why keep it 5'-0" away from the fires entry?

RE: SSU/SSP 4/12 slope requirement question.

If it is too close to the eave, possibly the spray patter can not properly develop?  That would be my guess, but may be totally off base as well.

Thanks, CDAFD. You don't know how many times we have had inspectors require the heads be within 5'-o" from the wall. It seems NFPAs explanatory material didn't quite hit the mark, on this code.

That is interesting have not seen tha section before

Fiqure  8.6.4.1.4 shows a good picture of it
