Weird thicken problem

Weird thicken problem

Weird thicken problem

(OP)
Hello Guys,

I have this strange problem. After knitting 3 surfaces (Filled surface from 3D sketch) and thicken I end up with extrusion in 3 different directions. Merge option is selected but these small triangle surfaces are highly undesirable (see JPG). How can I have one nice thickened surface pulled into solid in one direction?

I have attached files:

RE: Weird thicken problem

It looks like you're having a problem due to the compound curvature and non-tangency of your middle surface.  You can see the problem when you do an offset.  If you want to keep it as it is, then you may have to extend the surfaces and trim them back to where they look right.  Also, as a general rule of thumb, it's a good idea to start a surface model with a boundary surface.

Hello Eltron,

Thank you for your suggestion. Although none of those surfaces are tangent only 2 spots are strange. The rest (e.g. sharp one-point ending where 2 faces meet together) look fine after thickening.

Anyway, I will try to change Filled Surface to Boundary.

Thanks!
