Is this a balancing valve?

Is this a balancing valve?

Is this a balancing valve?

(OP)
Hello all,

Does anyone know the purpose of the valve in the attached photograph?  Who is the manufacturer?

The owner has no information at all. No tags, no stampings that make sense.

Thanks,
Ken

RE: Is this a balancing valve?

I'm going to guess "pressure regulating valve." Wait on some of the others to respond, though.

It might help if you told us what the light blue piping comes from and goes to.

Good on ya,

Goober Dave

RE: Is this a balancing valve?

Agree with Dave.  Balancing valve would not have an adjusting element, which is what that wing nut thingy on the top looks like.  Pressure regulator is more likely, or possibly some kind of funky filtration element.  Any pressure tap ports?

RE: Is this a balancing valve?

I am inclined to agree with "btrueblood".
I think it is a Filter or Strainer.
The "Wing Nut" on the top would be to remove and replace (or clean) the cartridge.

RE: Is this a balancing valve?

Definitely looks like regulator although inlet and outlet appear to be pvc pipe.  So neither side under high pressure.  May just be for crude pressure control.

Maybe a backflow preventer of some sort.  Just another possibility

Thanks everyone.

The owner's process people just called me.  They say it is a balancing valve.  Never saw one quite like this one.

Regards,
Ken
