NEi NASTRAN: Material angle for 3D orthotropic?

NEi NASTRAN: Material angle for 3D orthotropic?

NEi NASTRAN: Material angle for 3D orthotropic?

(OP)
Hi all!

I'm new to FEMAP/NASTRAN (well, new to NASTRAN for that matter). I've been self-teaching for a short while but still long way to go. Ok, getting to the point.

I'm modeling a bi-material structure, made of two different orthotropic materials (both are fiber-reinforced composite to be specific). Planar model I attempted was successfully analyzed (using Plate type) but 3D model is a headache.

The hardest part is I guess meshing because after I meshed and set the material angle, I got "No elements selected. Only quad or tri elements can be selected for this command" From that message, I'm guessing only 2D model is fine with material angle not 3D. Then how can anyone work with 3D orthotropic model in FEMAP?

How do you set material angle when 3D model is intended? What mesh structure do you use?

Again I'm new to FEMAP so I'd appreciate if you walked me through. Thank y'all.
