"OOTB" Location for Drawing Template File in NX 7?

"OOTB" Location for Drawing Template File in NX 7?

"OOTB" Location for Drawing Template File in NX 7?

(OP)
Two Part Question:

1)  How to save a .prt file as a drawing template in NX7?

2)  Where are drawing template files usually store in the "OOTB" configuration of NX7?

RE: "OOTB" Location for Drawing Template File in NX 7?

Any NX Drawing file can be a Drawing Template, it's more of how you use them rather than how you created or saved them.

As for where you can find them, look in...

-> UGII -> templates

The easiest way to get the system to use your templates is to replace the ones found in the folder above with your identically named Drawing files.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Thanks John, going through a few changes with approach to UGPART, and templates are back on the radar.

Question, what about PAX files? Do they need to be updated to reflect new .prt files?

RE: "OOTB" Location for Drawing Template File in NX 7?

If you're changing the names of the template files or putting them somewhere else, or you wish to change the image file used for the 'preview' in the File -> New dialog, then you'll have to also edit the .pax file to make those changes happen.

If you follow John's advice:

Then no, the pax files will not have to be updated. But if you want to store the files somewhere else, change the display text in the resource bar, change the preview icon for the template, etc etc; then the pax file will need to be updated. The pax files are plain text, and not too difficult to modify for your own use, just be sure to make a backup of the originals before you start tinkering.

Thanks fellas - making backups on my backups before I do anything too rash.  From the looks of it, it will be a matter of getting a couple of test templates done and posting them to the correct directory for use.  After that... it will be a "powers-to-be" call on what to do.
