(OP)
thread561-57916: UG Fonts

Is there was a way to add another font type other than "modern", I need this font type for engraving, and modern seems to be the only choice for a single line/curve font for our programming guys to create toolpaths on.

The modern text isnt very smooth, jagged joining lines etc...

RE: UG 7.5 Font Options - "Modern"

And as an update to the last question asked in the previous referenced thread, NX 8.0 now supports TrueType fonts, as well as all existing fonts (your choice).

However, if the above question was with respect to the fonts supported by the NX CAM 'Engraving' tool, that is something that you will have to take up with someone in the manufacturing group.

RE: UG 7.5 Font Options - "Modern"

If your CAM guys just want to follow the character strokes with a tool in the "ON" position, like an old pen plotter, any font can be used. Just make a drafting note and pick it in a planar text or contour text operations.

If you want to treat the characters like geometry, then you can create text features in CAD, and cut them with the point/curve drive method in surface contouring or whatever you like.

If you want to consider volume, for example pocket around the characters, then extrude the text features in to a solid, and cut however you want.

RE: UG 7.5 Font Options - "Modern"

As noted in the other thread mentioned above, the NX drafting fonts, ".fnx" consists of line segments. If one wants a "smooth" character one has to define many lines when drawing the font. - There are no smooth curve types in the file format. On the other hand, running CAM on a drafting font (setting up the engraving operation) is about as simple as it can be.
Try the Drafting font Latin_extended, it might look smoother. ( but still drawn by line segments.)
Try find the fonts that are created by Solid- Edge development. S-E has been using True Type fonts for many years on their drawings.

If you are able to use another CAD system see if their fonts suit your need, then do a cgm export of them, and import in NX.
