Imported Title Blocks Text

Imported Title Blocks Text

Imported Title Blocks Text

(OP)
For everyone running NX 8.0.1 which was just released found a bug for all that imports title blocks to use in there drafting file, the lines for the title blocks come in inch format while all the text comes in metric, found a quick solution use your transform and scale it by 25.4, and it should align the text back up in the proper place, will be contacting GTAC first thing monday morning with this issue.

RE: Imported Title Blocks Text

Are you talking about importing just the Title Block itself onto an existing Drawing?

I ask because if the Title Block is part of a Drawing Template, and this Template is applied to an existing part/assembly model, creating a Master Model Drawing, everything works just fine.

Note that while the bug you found is very serious and needs to be fixed (and I'm sure that it will) since the new Title Block creation function was paired with the new Drawing Boarder creation function and both of these were then paired with the new 'Mark as Template' function, which allows your Drawing Boarder/Title Block combination to be saved as a valid Drawing Template along with automatically updating the PAX file used to present and apply this Drawing Template, replacing the system provided templates, our expectations was that people would go this route instead of adding Title Blocks as individual objects to an already existing Drawing.

RE: Imported Title Blocks Text

the new titleblocks have some problems.
loosing the origin editing sheetsize
can not define insert a date attribute (direct from list)
the cell style not working for the date.
cannot define a titleblock as custom symbol
editing / cutomizing the titleblock is annoying
I thing we should wait a version using it.

RE: Imported Title Blocks Text

I suggest that you look at ALL of the new tools that we have provided and not try to fit the new Title Block object into your old workflows, such as using Custom Symbols for your Drawing Borders (which I'll be the first to admit I personally promoted in the past, but no longer do).

For example, there are attributes which can extract the date, or simple programs can be created which will do that.  I've added a program that's automatically executed when I save a file which creates automatically Attributes that captures the user's name as well as the current date, which I then insert into my standard title block when I create a drawing.

As for editing and customizing, the idea is that the task of creating a standard set of Drawing Borders is something which will be done infrequently and if the cells are filled with automatic text, links to Atributes or left empty which will cause the system to automatically prompt the user for any missing items when the Drawing Template is applied to your part or assembly model.  This will reduce the need to 'edit' the title block, but even then we've provided a function to do that which will let you go back and change/insert values into unlocked cells.

To further understand the various tools and options we now have in NX for this area, may I suggest that you review the NX Help files, in particular...

RE: Imported Title Blocks Text

John, the new tools are ok, but like crude green bananas.
You have done fine things, don't get me wrong.
Drafting Automation, afaik, for ex. is only available in the drafting plus package. The titleblock as custom symbol would help a lot of supplier with a zoo of titleblocks of several clients.
I want to speed up my job.

RE: Imported Title Blocks Text

Granted, some of the more advanced rules and KF-based automation tools require a Drafting Plus license, but most all of the Drawing Border and Title Block creation and conversion to Drawing Templates functions will work with a normal NX Drafting license.  This includes using the already implemented Automatic Text, linked Attributes, etc to automate the filling in of your Title Block and drawing annotation.
