2009 IBC Wall Stud Bending Stress Increase...gone??

(OP)
The 2006 IBC has a section/table 2306.2.1 that will allow for a bending stress increase in studs based on composite action that can be substituted for the repetitive member factor.  I've looked through the 2009 code and so far have been unable to find this provision.  Can someone verify if it has been removed entirely or just moved to a different section and I have missed it??

RE: 2009 IBC Wall Stud Bending Stress Increase...gone??

I don't know about the 2006 IBC but the 2009 version defaults to the AF&PA (AWC) NDS. Section 4.3.9, Repetitive Member Factor, Cr which is 1.15. That paragraph outlines what it can be used for, like joists, truss chords, rafters, studs, planks, etc. "which are in contact or spaced not more than 24" on centers, are not less than three in number and are joined by floor, roof or other load distributing elements"

RE: 2009 IBC Wall Stud Bending Stress Increase...gone??

I don't know the origin of the table in the 2006 IBC, but the values are very close to the Cf factor alone except for 2x10 and 2x12 studs.  It that point it seems close to Cf*Cr

The table has been moved to the ANSI/AF&PA SDPWS-08 Special Design Provisions for Wind and Seismic, Table 3.1.1.1 Wall Stud Repetitive Members Factors. As referenced in chapter 35 of the 2009 IBC.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.
