SAP2000: Cable geometry problem

SAP2000: Cable geometry problem

SAP2000: Cable geometry problem

(OP)
Hello all,

I am working on transmission tower line systems. I have a few doubts in modeling the structure. To start with : The only information I have about the existing line is the lowest vertical sag at the middle. So when I model the line as cable element I gave the cable type as 'low point vertical sag'. Now, we know that the lines are attached to insulators. When I perform a dead load nonlinear (large displacement) analysis on the structure the sag increases. However the sag I want is after dead weight is applied ie the measured sag on the actual line.

Is there a way to get exactly the same sag after dead load analysis or is it that I will have to do iterations to get the exact sag?

RE: SAP2000: Cable geometry problem

I've had troubles with SAP2000 cables as well. Have you tried using SAG10 and inputting the cable tensions as point loads on the structure?
