Hi,

I have a 4" line with a "Y" Strainer, the supplier is offering the mesh in ASTM A240 TP 316L, it is recomended or possible?

The design conditions for the auxiliary main steam are:
Pressure 162.7 barg
Temperature 553 °C

The 'mesh' you mention in your post is a stainless steel plate material. To be a mesh, you have to mention hole size, number, open area to total area ratio, etc.
If your mesh is a start up strainer, meant to remove bolts and huts and other large size contaminants left in the pipe work, then the plate you mention is ok. If the 'mesh' is for straining smaller contaminants and the pressure/flow/temperature are high, then the plate material is ok, because the plate can offer higher strength than a wire mesh.
Nevertheless, the price of the 'mesh' is importasnt, so consider the alternative strainer element, using wire mesh. If the plate mesh is cheaper or the same price as the wire mesh, then is the way to go, because will also offer longer service life.

Thanks gr2vessels, but my primary concern it's relative with the design conditions, what do you think about the 316L plate material for that temperature, would be better than 316? or we should ask for another tipe of SS

The 316L is the preferred material for welded pressure retaining components, due to lower carbon content. The mesh does not qualify for pressure retaining component. You can use the dual certified 316/316L material for the basket/mesh.
