4-115 kV pipe type cable configuration

4-115 kV pipe type cable configuration

4-115 kV pipe type cable configuration

(OP)
It is possible to propose 4 pipe type cables (HPFF) 115 kV arranged in vertical configuration?

If yes, was is the typical separation betwen pipes.
The reason of this question is because there are many UG utilities that difficult  the conventional horizontal installation arrangement.

Please advise

RE: 4-115 kV pipe type cable configuration

I never made or mounted such a cable. The modern pipe liquid filled cable use a modern
insulation [LPP] and what I know is only XLPE and paper so I don't know the characteristics as dielectric losses and thermal resistance. I think there will be some losses in the pipe and could be a temperature drop in pipe serving.
As the general impression I don't see any difference in the ampacity [for a feet distance between center lines, for instance] in an underground soil of 90 [RHO].
But anyway, as one has to keep a safety slope [depends on soil 34-53 degrees] the trench width will be the same so I don't see the advantage of vertical configuration.

RE: 4-115 kV pipe type cable configuration

Actually, there is a slight derating .For instance for 3*1000 MCM copper from 550 A in straight line to 516 A vertical.
