Trying to achieve 80,120 and 200 fpm from my band saw

Trying to achieve 80,120 and 200 fpm from my band saw

Trying to achieve 80,120 and 200 fpm from my band saw

Ok here is what I have come up with so far. My band saw motor is a 1/3 hp 1725 rpm directly mounted to a 26" circumference drive wheel which I believe is moving my blade at 3737.5 fpm. What i am trying to do is slow it down to 80,120 and 200 fpm or close to those speeds with a gear reducer and a 3 pullet set up. I found a dayton 4Z502 speed ruducer (Cheap) that will output 90 rpm. From what I came up with here is if I mount this to the drive pulley and run a 1 to 1 pulley it will give me 195 fpm. So my question here is what size pulleys do I need to get my speed down to 120 and 80 fpm. I plan on running a 3 pulley system on both my motor and the reducer. The reducer is a indirect drive. Also the reducer is rated at 1/3hp max power input and the output at 1/3hp gives 225 in lbs of torque. Is this enough to cut 1/8 to 3/16 steel. I also assume that slowing down the rpm,s on the reducer will increase my in lbs of torque. I am not very good at this but I want to learn. Thanks for all answers. And please if any of you know a better route to go that does not put the price high Im all ears. Thanks again. RMZ

Buy a bandsaw that's made for cutting metal.

Or just use a grit-edge blade on the saw you've got.

If you go with the grit-edge, thoroughly clean out all the wood dust before cutting metal; there will be sparks.
