Rendering problem by importing a Rhino 5 model (.sat) in Abaqus 6.9-3

Rendering problem by importing a Rhino 5 model (.sat) in Abaqus 6.9-3

(OP)
Hi,

I have created a model (mm dimensions) in Rhino 5 and I imported to Abaqus 6.9-3 as a .sat file. The problem is that my model looks very distorted. It seems that there is a rendering problem. I refined the rendering both in Rhino and Abaqus (by curve refinement-->extra fine) but it still has problem. The model is being improved a lot when I mesh it but still there are some problems. Does anybody had such experience? Is there any advice what should I do? How could I refine it more?

Thank u in advance,

Giorgos

In the part display options under View on the menu bar, use extra fine for the curve refinement. It then looks fine.

Thank you for your instant response. I already did that and it still looks distorted at the tips. The problem is that if I had to analyse this part it could not be a problem for me. However, this is a small segment of my complete model and when I m importing the complete one it looks much more worse. Do u know if there must be a problem with my dimensions? How could I be able to change them in Abaqus? Thank you.

It looked fine to me, but there was an error/warning message saying imprecise geometry. In the mesh module the part did mesh with a fine enough seeding but with some warnings on element shape. I think these could be removed with a finer seeding than I used.

I don't know what the rest of the model looks like but have you considered using beam elements rather than a 3D solid bar for such thin sections?

This part is a small segment of a stent model. Actually, I thought about using beam elements but the analysis will be a contact analysis (contact between stent and artery) therefore, I m not sure whether using beam element would be beneficial or not.

Concerning the model, maybe I have to design it in Abaqus since I have these importing problems. Somehow abaqus doesnt look happy with the circular profile. However, thank you veru much for your advices. Cheers!
