jack & bore in alluvium

jack & bore in alluvium

I am doing the geotech for a water/sanitation agency project involving a jack and bore of a new main sewer line under a creek. its a narrow channel but their planned bore path has only 8 feet of planned cover which will still be within the modern alluvium at the center of the channel. are there any mitigation measures to avoid caving in the narrow patch of alluvium besides increasing the depth of cover?

Also, the bore path is below the water table, it is an active creek. So I don't know if things like chemical grouting would work.

Try 'Pipe Ramming' for this. No soil moved until the casing is all the way across stream.

thanks. i will look into that! would have to find out how disruptive the hammer blows would be to the alluvium standing in the banks.

Check the Trenchlessonline site for Pipe Ramming and Pipe Bursting contractors in your area.

Also, there is a trade show/seminar in Nashville in March, NO-Dig 2012. This is sponsored by NASTT. Lots of vendors and info on trenchless methods of rehab and new construction.
