UV Stabilizer Specification or Call out
UV Stabilizer Specification or Call out
(OP)
Hi,
I'm working on drawings for a client that needs some of its plastics UV stabilized and want to know what the best practice for this is. My options:
1. A call out beside the material grade: "UV Stabilized"
2. A compliance note: "Must pass UV Stabilization specification _______" (to which a follow up question would be: what specs govern UV stabilization performance?)
Thanks!

RE: UV Stabilizer Specification or Call out
e.g. Quote from GE;
"Lexan 121 is a Low viscosity multi purpose grade, available in transparent, translucent and opaque colours."
"Lexan 123 is Low viscosity, UV stabilized multi purpose grade, containing release agent. Available in transparent, translucent and opaque colours
So, Lexan 123 will always be a UV stabilized product. Whether it meets your requirements is another thing of course.

RE: UV Stabilizer Specification or Call out
Different resins have greatly varying performance.
Different pigments can have a dramatic influence.
Different stabilisers are required for different resins and are sacrificial.
Exposure tests on equipment with an artificial light source are consistent for QC tests but do not correlate at all well with real world performance.
