sap 2000 door/window openings

(OP)
Ok so first of all excuse my bad english, secondly I just started learnig civil engineering so I am new to this stuff. I need to model a 4 story building in sap 2000 v15. I defined the beams, collumns, floors and walls section areas/materials but i don't seem to figure out how to make openings for doors/windows on the wall. Can someone enlighten me ? I used shell area for walls.

RE: sap 2000 door/window openings

I believe you have two options.  Option A: the old way is to simply delete the wall at the location of your opening.  Option B: is to assign the portion of the wall you want with an opening.  I believe you can either draw a door opening, window opening, or assign an opening to an already drawn wall element.  SAP should then automatically mesh around the openings and doors.  You'll need to check that everything is meshing correctly.

With Option A, you'll need to set the meshing manually.  Be careful with meshing it can have a huge impact on the results.

I'm assuming since you are "learning" civil engineering you are a student?
