Weldability of a material
Weldability of a material
(OP)
Well i came across the word " Weldability " but basically i am not having more information on this so please help me on below questions -
What is the terms " weldability " stand for ?
What are factors affecting the Weldability of a material ?
What are the weldability tests ?
What is the purpose of weldability test, how its affecting the material ?
For which material / grades weldability test required ?
Thanks

RE: Weldability of a material
Weldability in my mind is simply the ease of making a weld that is free of unacceptable discontinuities, a weld that develops the needed mechanical properties, and it will perform as intended in the expected service environment.
There are fracture tests, bend tests, surface examinations, e.g., visual examination, volumetric NDT (RT and UT), tensile tests, impact tests, explosion tests, corrosion tests, chemical analysis, macro examinations as well as micro examinations to determine the particulars of the discontinuities present or the microstructure that is present. The list goes of tests goes on and on depending on what characteristics or properties are to be determined.

RE: Weldability of a material
Well actually i came across with this word " Weldability Test " as a requirement from one specification , and i am bit aware with the weldability as said by Mr. Jones but, Is there any specific test other than visual examination, volumetric NDT (RT and UT), tensile tests, impact tests, explosion tests, corrosion tests, chemical analysis, macro examinations as well as micro examinations ?
I agree and i come to know that material mechanical and Chemical properties will affect the weldability of a Material.
