Hydro generator mechanical brake device

Dear Sirs do you have any information, solutions about how to collect the dust produced by the mechanical brake device at vertical hydro generators?.

RE: Hydro generator mechanical brake device

nelvex:

Why is dust a problem? Are the brakes coming on at too high a speed and wearing quickly? Normally the control equipment will apply the brakes at 30% speed or less to bring the unit to a final stop. Applying the brakes at higher speeds may burn the shoes and overheat the brake track on the rotor.

Yes, the brakes are applied at 30% rated speed, but some beneficiaries require such a device. Dust with oil vapor deteriorates cooling the machine.

The application of a certain vacuum is the answer to brake dust and oil vapour problems:

1. Encase every single brake pad and connect the resulting chambers to a suitable vacuum cleaner. In order to reduce brake dust, adjust braking speed to 20% or even lower.

2. Apply a modest under pressure to the bearing oil pot in order to prevent the oil vapour to escape into the generator room.
