Bevels

Bevels

(OP)
We have drawings requiring a 71 deg bevel on 1" plate.  Basically, it is a slope where 1/2" and the 1" will meet.  Does anyone have a good idea how to accomplish this 2 3/8" wide bevel without distorting the material with excessive heat?  To make matters really intersting, the material has a 27' radius.

Thanks.

RE: Bevels

What kind of material and how are you proposing to make this bevel??

Wood and a router or titanium and big A$$ grinder??

RE: Bevels

(OP)
LOL.  Good point!  It is A36 material.  I am trying to stay away from the Big A$$ grinder!  Too many to do.

RE: Bevels

A good CNC machine and operator can do this.  Call your local machine shop(s) and see what they say.

RE: Bevels

Milling a bevel like that is easier before the plate is rolled.

Also, there exist 'pipe beveling machines' that can mill or grind a nice bevel after the plate is rolled.

RE: Bevels

We have one of those rotary plate bevelers that works like a shaper,
and while pricy, they put down a perfect bevel in a fraction of the time it takes to grind it.  Well worth the money.

RE: Bevels

Sounds like you are fabricating a structural component of a tub girder.
