springs

springs

(OP)
Dear All,
I'd like to ask you a question about springs elements in abaqus.
I have some springs with a certain stiffness.
I'd like the springs to stop working after they reach a specific translation, after which the springs should...."disappear" leaving the translation totally free.
I have tried also with connector and failure behaviour, but it doesn't work (i am a little confused about upper and lower limits...).
Could anyone help me?
thank you in advance!
Stefano

RE: springs

Hello,

Connector failure can be set respect to lower and upper connector position (CP output).
Let's assume our connector element has initial position (length) 10.0 [mm]
and we want to remove element after 7.5 [mm] of displacement in tension (CU1 output) or 6.0 [mm] in compressions.

**
*CONNECTOR FAILURE, COMPONET=1
** low_pos, up_pos, low_force, up_force
4.0, 17.5
**

The connector will be removed when achieve position (length) 4.0 [mm] or 17.5 [mm].
This is true if we get 6.0 [mm] of compression or 7.5 [mm] of tension.
If you do not want to use specific failure condition just leave empty place.

I hope it will help You.

Regards,
Bartosz

thank you first of all for the answer.
So now my problem is: where do I read the initial length of the connector?
in my case connectors connects points to the ground..

Hi,

I never used connectors connected to the ground.
Perhaps initial length is zero.
To be sure save CP1 output into odb file, run analysis for short
time and check first output point.
