Very interesting video on measuring strain W/in bridge gussets.

I suspect this may have pretty cool applications for experimental areo stress analysis W/O strain gages.... especially if combined with, or used to evaluate quality of, Finite Element Models VS real world act structures OR mechanical components.

Thanks for sharing.  The power of industrial cameras and computer software combine for a myriad of amazing applications.

RE: Speckles for Safety: Measuring Stress in Bridges: Aero Applications?

My new toy,a kinematics&compliance rig, is used to measure the stiffness of complete suspensions in various directions. The displacement sensors are cameras aimed at a target, a rigid disc bolted to the  wheel, with a pattern of about 15 dots on it.

Resolution is better than 0.1mm

Works very well.
