Custom Weldment created, insert structural Member, CTD Every time

Custom Weldment created, insert structural Member, CTD Every time

(OP)
I have created a custom weldment profile, based on Aluminum extrusion profile downloaded from 3dcontent central.  Whenever I attempt to use it as a structural member Solidworks hangs for a few seconds, then crashes to desktop.  I have created other profiles, simpiler ones and have had no problems with them running.

Any thoughts on what may be causing the Crash when using the extrusion profile?

I'd take a >very< close look at the basic geometry of the profile.  I'd be particularly alert for:
Gaps.
Lines crossed at corners.
Tiny text, like advertising or copyright notices.

That last, text (that you have to zoom way in to see) in sketches that I didn't originate, has caused problems in extrusion for me.

Thanks Mike,

I will take a look for those kind of things.  In the mean time I am trying to recreate the profile from scratch as well.

I will let all know if this does it.

When I create weldment profiles I always do the Check Sketch For Feature function and do an extrude.  That way I know if I am jacked from the get-go.

I have not been able to directly find anything wrong in the original sketch, however, using teh self created one worked beautifully.

Therefore there must be something wrong with the original.

Thanks Mike and Dan for the help.

MechEng13,

Can you post a link to the 3DCC original, and a copy of your customized profile?

If the 3DCC profile is corrupt, the author should be informed.

CBL,

I don't believe it is corrupt, I think there is like Mike said, a gap or an open profile.

Mine is not exact, but close enough for what I use them for.

It is also possible that in my use of it using design tables, I messed something up in my original sketch that did not have an impact the way I was using it previously.

I will try to get it uploaded later in the day, I am getting ready for my slew of meetings today.
