HIC/SIHIC service

Dear All,

We are assigned to do some repair work for drum, which comes under the service of SOHIC,and as per spec (DEP) If SOHIC testing is specified, it shall be in accordance with NACE TM0103.

But all the plate supplliers decloine for this testing and SOHIC.
since the NACE has withdrawn the TM0103. Please suggest any alternate solution or we have to offer SSC testing instead SOHIC.

RE: HIC/SIHIC service

SSC and SOHIC are different mechanisms.  I don't know that SSC testing would address HIC / SOHIC phenomena.

Maybe suggest qualifying the plate using a standard HIC test to Prudential PS-50 criteria?

The problem would be in sourcing plate that is already qualified to that (or even PS-10) level.  Another risk that you also get into is that you can often take "HIC-plate", subject it to a test, and have it fail the test anyway.

If it's a DEP, and the client is someone like (presumably) Shell, you will find that they have some knowledgeable folks on their side that can offer guidance.

Regards,

SNORGY.

RE: HIC/SIHIC service

If Shell, or their affiliate using the DEP (assumed as 31.22.2031-Gen) has specified SOHIC testing, it is incumbent upon them to provide the acceptance criteria as per sub-subclause XI.5.4.2.  It would also be incumbent on them to advise how to perform a test when the test method has been withdrawn!  A paper by TWI, NACE 2007 - 07115, has highlighted the lack of suitable small scale SOHIC test method.
