Light Gage Studs Bearing on Roof Deck

I need to install new stud walls on existing 1-1/2" type roof deck.  How do I keep the deck from crushing?  Is there a heavy duty foam than can get installed below the flutes?

RE: Light Gage Studs Bearing on Roof Deck

NOT exactly sure what you are doing - but I have often used 2x4's and plywood shims to "save" the deck??

RE: Light Gage Studs Bearing on Roof Deck

For heavily loaded walls, we place 6" channels "toes down" over the flutes and weld them to the supports below. For walls parallel to the deck flutes (perpendicular to the joists), use a continuous channel (or two if you can't locate the wall well with one).  For walls perpendicular to the deck, use short channels spanning between the joists spaced every couple of feet and either design the bottom track to span between the channels or place a continuous angle or channel under the bottom track of the wall.  We've had good luck with 3" deep bottom tracks in this condition.

I would make sure to check the deck too as is.  The web crippling strength may be sufficient.

Thanks guys.  I really appreciate it!

Druminman, using channels is a great idea.  I have used it in the past with success especially at mechanical units.
