Steel Plate Embedment in Concrete - UBC/IBC min. plate thickness

Steel Plate Embedment in Concrete - UBC/IBC min. plate thickness

(OP)
Hello,

I'm designing a bridge connection that ties a concrete deck to a steel arch below it at the crown (preliminary phase of a project).  I plan to embed a steel plate in the underside of the deck, anchored by shear studs (7/8" dia.).  The stud plate will be welded to a vertical plate (forming a built up tee) which will be bolted to webs of the arch box section.

Regardless of if this is the best idea or not (I may be able to provide a sketch later), I'm looking for a minimum plate thickness for the embedded plate with this stud size.  AASHTO doesn't seem to have guidance for something like this, but from what I gather online, UBC/IBC may require thickness of plate>stud dia./2 for shear connector studs.

Is anyone familiar with such a requirement (or know of another off hand).  I don't presently have a copy of the UBC/IBC available to me.  Worst case, I imagine I can try to contact a stud manufacturer.

Thanks.

An opinion in this website

Also, plate thickness becomes a factor when determining the strength of the plate plus anchor to fit its purpose, hence it is quite likely you will meet some limitation when looking for the strength of the outfit by the PCI or ACI standing formulations.
