Newly repaired 2800 ton chiller...tech says he cannot determine ...

(OP)
.....Whether the chiller is fully charged or not. He says he needs to run the chiller fully loaded to determine this( we don't have the load right now) Isn't there any other way for him to determine the charge? This chiller was run improperly and blew its charge...York repaired and recharged it....why can't they tell whether the machine is charged properly or not? I appreciate any insights here. In the past, at other employers, techs simply weighed it as the charged it..Thanks all!

RE: Newly repaired 2800 ton chiller...tech says he cannot determine ...

He should have weighed it in unless he recharged it without pumping it out.  For example if he was being screamed at to get it back online and it was only partially discharged with low risk of contamination.

The Tech might be able to use tables and charts to work out what the pressures should be, but this data would probably not extrapolate to low, winter, loads.

Call the tech or his service manager and ask them for a better explanation of what is going on.
