Hiding lines in drawings

Hiding lines in drawings

Hiding lines in drawings

(OP)
I'm really having problems trying to hide lines in drawings.

I have an assembly with 3 layers of 3/4" material stacked on top of each other. In the drawing, I want to show it as 1 2.25" thick slab.

I want to hide the lines that make up the layers.  I can't seem to do this.  Right clicking on the line, hide/show edges....nothing, the lines remain.

What am I doing wrong here?

Absolutely crazy that I cannot hide simple lines on a drawing.  I have found absolutely ZERO that is even half-way decent in the drawing portion of solidworks.

So far that only way to get the detail I want, delete the view, is to sketch what I really want, dimension it....then delete the text in the dimension to show what it really should be.

I might as well use Paint....a MUCH better drawing tool.

RE: Hiding lines in drawings

I don't have Solidworks in front of me right now, but just thought I'd point out there will be multiple lines to hide.  There are are 4 edges represented by a single line.

RE: Hiding lines in drawings

goodtruant,

If you one piece stacked on top of another piece, the thing separating them on your drawing is two lines, not one.  When you hide a line, the other one remains.

Usually, I click on one line and hide it.  I click on the line again, and hide it.

Failing that, you can go into the model and shift a piece to one side, giving you access to both lines.

RE: Hiding lines in drawings

I can't recreate your issue.  However,

Since there are two edges there, sometimes its hard to select the correct one.

Try hiding the component that makes the "filling" of the sandwich in the drawing view.  Then hide the edges of the "bread" pieces.  Next, hide the "bread" and show the "filling".  Hide the edges of the "filling".  Then show the bread again.

Seems that everything in Solidworks is some sort of work around.

RE: Hiding lines in drawings

Not sure what 3d tool you are use to working with but all I've used would require me to hide all 4 lines.  I wouldn't really call it a work around.  And if you really want to bash a 3d tools 2d capabilities, you should try ProE... ;o)

RE: Hiding lines in drawings

Sorry about that.  Just found that ProE hides all at once.  I guess I haven't tried that in quite a while.  But everything else 2d is a huge burden...
