VFD Controling Smaller Rated Motor

VFD Controling Smaller Rated Motor

VFD Controling Smaller Rated Motor

(OP)
Is there any problems of say a 110kW motor connected to a 330kW VFD?

Your technical assistance and experience is highly appreciated.

RE: VFD Controling Smaller Rated Motor

Other than that you spent way too much for the VFD?

RE: VFD Controling Smaller Rated Motor

There *might* be a problem in setting the drive up or using the motor identification in vector control. Some VFDs expect certain parameters in a rather narrow range. But that would not be a problem with a 1/3 ratio.

Other problems are difficult to imagine. And, if you run scalar control, the only limitation usually is in the rated current and rated power setting. If you can set these parameters correctly, there shouldn't be any problems at all.

Half full - Half empty? I don't mind. It's what in it that counts.

RE: VFD Controling Smaller Rated Motor

Some drives have a lower limit to where the motor overload protection parameters can be set as well, but as Gunnar says, if your drive allows the programming to go low enough, that would prove otherwise in your case.
