Weld strength calculation for a test unit

Weld strength calculation for a test unit

Weld strength calculation for a test unit

(OP)
I have a test unit made of a 3" xxh pipe 4130 steel heat treated (Annealed) to 100,000 yield. The ends are made of 7/16 hammer unions and autoclaves (welded joint). I've attached the picture herewith. How do I calculate the weld strength for this type of connection. I also need to calculate how much pressure this unit can withstand as we are planning to use this for hydro-testing our pressure relief valves.

Thanks!

RE: Weld strength calculation for a test unit

I am a little confused......

You have a need for a testing component and you have a good idea of what you must test and the test pressures involved.

So..... you build "something" and now you really dont have any idea of how to perform an engineering evaluation of  the "something" for the service.

In my opinion, your assembly will be pressure limited by the strength of the flanged connections.... not the 3"NPF XXH piping.

Find the pressure/temperature rating tables for your mechanical connections (flanges ?) They will control the rated pressure of your assembly.

Weld strength calculations are not done for piping systems...
