Converting density(English unit) to liquid density (API unit)
Converting density(English unit) to liquid density (API unit)
(OP)
Dear Sir/Madam
I would like to convert the 47.2 lb/ft^3 to API liquid density for inputting the standard liquid density (API unit) into the component properties-fixed properties function in PROII.
But, I have trouble to used the formula I found in the following :
API =141.5/(SG 60/60)) -131.5
SG 60/60= 141.5 / (131.5 + API)
and specific gravity of petroleum fractions graph is attached.
As I also don't know the normal boiling point of this compound and the only thing I know this
compound is heavy organic (mw=72, flash point greater than 100F )
Could you please help me how to find this API density for this compound ?
thank you so much.

RE: Converting density(English unit) to liquid density (API unit)
SG = 47.2/62.4 = 0.756
API = 141.5/SG-131.5 = 55.6
Good luck,

RE: Converting density(English unit) to liquid density (API unit)
"heavy organic (MW=72)"???? Pure isopentane has an MW of 72.149 and a boiling point at sea level of 82.11F, not normally thought of as "Heavy". The SG of isopentane 0.62 (38.69 lbm/ft^3) so the API is 96.7.
