thread238-158737: Dry Type Transformer Sound Level

Hi,
I need to design an Enclosure for the NAKED 75HP Deutz Diesel Engine tha tis used on a mobile equipment.

The requirement is
1. To cover the Engine to look nice.
2. To reduce the Noise level from 110DB to 80 BD.

HOw do i reduce the Noise of the Engine?

I am planning to use a 14Ga Steel Sheet to create the enclosure.
Please let me know if i am right. If you have any better ideas please share it with me.

RE: Noise Level Reduction on Engine

Noise can be attenuated by using acoustical panels on the enclosing box. Sound absorption and sound transmission loss is the key. The usual materials I saw with our rented mobile silent gensets utilize 18ga GI sheet metal outer skin with 22ga perforated galvanized steel sandwiching fiberglass or mineral wool.

Check with manufacturer, many of them offer an optional acoustic enclosure.  We had a nice one from Caterpillar at my last job.

If you're building your own, burnt2x's suggestion sounds a lot like how ours was made.

Good on ya,

Goober Dave

Thanks Burnt2x and DRWeig.
Do we have any plastics tha tcan be used for this.
The actual appliaction will be in teh Loactiosn of -40F temperatures.
Do you think PLastic will be good for this?
I am thinking of the weight as well.

How good is the GI sheet option you mentioned for this Temp?
